Lecturer slumps and dies in Kogi University, family blames non-payment of salary 

 


A lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Jamiu Abdullahi died of High Blood Pressure (HBP) DAILY POST collected that, while awaiting his exam outcome, late Dr. Abdullahi collapsed into the hospital.

Family source informed our correspondent that the deceased was unable to treat himself of the illness that ultimately took his life because the Kogi State government kept his wages for several months.

Also DAILY POST learned that in February 2019, university lecturers last collected their wages.

"Due to absence of funding, the deceased's family could not bring him to a better hospital. The deceased had nothing in his account because the government of the state did not pay him frequently.

"It is unfortunate that his doctor had not been able to buy the drug that was prescribed for him because we were unable to increase anything. And yesterday at about 2 pm, when he died, the situation worsened, "he said.

The Arabic Studies Doctor's body was transmitted to his nation home in Iyamoye in Kogi State's Local Government Area in Ijumu and has since been buried according to Islamic rituals.

He said his death had nothing to do with unpaid wages, however. "Late Dr Abdullahi has been ill for a while, he says. Before the outcome came out, he gave up the ghost when he went to the hospital for check-up." Dr Abdullahi is survived by a spouse and four kids.
