Lecturer calls for ban on Miracle centers to curb examination malpractices

A lecturer at the Kwara State College of Education, Oro, Mr. Babatunde Abdulkareem, called on the federal government to prohibit the country's unique examination centers as a means of curbing malpractice in examination.

Abdulkareem, who is the head of the college's Department of Political Science, produced the call in Ilorin on Wednesday while talking to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).

He said there was a daily increase in the amount of unique centers in the nation, alleging that such centers were known to encourage cheating during examinations.

According to the lecturer, most parents prefer to pay extra to register their kids in the "miracle centers" as a sure manner to ensure achievement in exams.

"You can see that every building is now being used for examination in the nation.

"Some company centers are also used as test rooms where you can just walk in and write tests without adequate checking for a enormous fee.

"The Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) and other exams have become an easy ride for applicants as there are unique safe centers throughout the nation.

"Federal government and stakeholders in education must stop pretending to prohibit unique centers and act quickly. Malpractice of the examination is bad and should not be encouraged, "he said.

Abdulkareem encouraged the federal government and stakeholders to establish surveillance organizations to arrest the center owners during examinations.

He also called on parents to encourage their kids to study hard for their exams and to stop searching for shortcuts to pass exams.

"It is not the best thing to register your kids in miracle centers. You're just attempting to destroy the future of your kids.

"In order to save schooling in the nation, we all need to talk up and say' no' to examine malpractice," Abdulkareem said. (NAN)
