JAMB withdraws results of candidates over forgery

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) claims it has withdrawn from its 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) the results of four applicants who participated.

The board's Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin in Lagos, announced this in a declaration.

The applicants are discovered to have tried to fraudulently raise their ratings at the examination, according to the declaration.

"One of the applicants, who is the primary culprit, stated he scored 290 in the beginning and was eventually lowered to 153.
"After this statement, the board headquarters invited him for adequate testing.

"It was at this stage that it was found and demonstrated to him that his claim was untrue, and as such he was deeply engaged in the examination result's severe infringement and falsification.

"He finally admitted to the forgery, though," he added.

Further controls on his handset also revealed that he was not alone as there was proof that three other applicants had patronized him similarly with their registration numbers and names obviously mentioned for possible illicit upgrading and faking outcomes, "the declaration said.
No effort will be spared by the board, according to the statement, in identifying and sanctioning any candidate or persons attempting to undermine the integrity of the board's examination by whatever means.

It indicated that anyone who collaborated or sponsored such applicants would face equal penalties.

The declaration recalled that the board had clarified during the release on May 11 of its 2019 UTME findings that the discovery of severe infringement after examination could lead to the withdrawal of any published outcomes.
It further indicated that for further verification, a number of candidates ' outcomes were withheld, adding that anyone discovered not to be guilty would have processed and published their outcomes.

Consequently, according to the declaration, a number of outcomes were published after due verification, while others were cancelled.

"Some, however, required further direct communication and interview in order to define obviously whether or not they were guilty.

"Applicants in this category were invited to appear on Monday, June 17 at eight assigned centers across the nation.

"Abuja, Asaba, Gombe, Ibadan, Ilorin, Kaduna, Lagos, Owerri are the centers.
"Since then, the applicants concerned had the immediate communication and interview with the board's intelligence committee to determine their guilt or otherwise in some found infringement of the examination," he said.

According to the declaration, it is discovered that 3,736 applicants are either free of any blame or entitled to the advantage of the doubt and have their findings processed and published accordingly.

"The applicants' originally withheld 3,736 outcomes are now being published," it said.
